Project Ropa

February 2024 Newsletter

Thank you to everyone who supported us in 2023! Thanks to your support we were able to raise $21,828 during our end-of-year campaign, which is more than double our original goal.

This year we need your support more than ever. Already in 2024 we have had nearly a dozen organizations reaching out to us in desperate need of clothing and hygiene essentials for their clients. Our waitlist for organizations seeking our services now includes over 25 organizations. The list includes dental clinics, elementary schools, food pantries, libraries, medical clinics, middle schools, mobile showers, outreach providers, shelters and transitional housing. In order for us to add more service sites and provide more organizations with supplies we need additional funding.

Project Ropa is dedicated to providing essential clothing and hygiene items to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and people living in poverty. The importance of clean clothes goes beyond mere comfort; it is a fundamental aspect of restoring dignity and self-esteem. For many people in need, the ability to access clean clothes is a daily struggle, impacting not only their physical well-being but also their mental and emotional health.

Unfortunately, the stigma associated with wearing dirty clothes exacerbates the challenges faced by those navigating life on the streets and in living in poverty. Our organization seeks to break this cycle by supplying fresh, clean clothing and essential hygiene products to individuals who often bear the weight of societal judgment.

By supporting our cause, you contribute to a transformative impact on the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness and those living in poverty who are one paycheck away from becoming unhoused. Your generous donation enables us to provide not just clothing and hygiene essentials but also a beacon of hope and a reminder of their inherent dignity. Together, we can eliminate the stigma attached to wearing dirty clothes, help open doors to housing and employment opportunities and fostering a more compassionate and understanding society where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can feel valued and respected. Join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most – because everyone deserves the right to step forward with confidence and a sense of self-worth.

Loads of Love: The Sierra Subaru Way

We are so thankful to Sierra Subaru of Monrovia for coming to our service site in Echo Park last month to distribute 100 laundry kits that they donated to our guests as part of their Loads of Love event.

Community Partner Highlight

The Sidewalk Project is an arts + harm reduction organization that exists to create wellness for those that live outdoors. Project Ropa provides The Sidewalk Project as well as over 35 mutual aid groups and small nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles on a monthly basis with bulk supplies of clothing and hygiene essentials.

“As a result of our ongoing partnership with Project Ropa, The Sidewalk Project (TSP) has been able to provide dignified, clean clothing for our most marginalized community in Skid Row & MacArthur Park consistently. One of the things that TSP insists on is understanding the need for gender-specific services for unhoused cis and trans women. Project Ropa has been a major support, especially in sharing pretty clothes for women that they feel good about wearing. Project Ropa shares high-quality products. Project Ropa has also been a major contributor to our program in offering warm clothing during the winter. When it rains, TSP is in the streets doing wellness checks and helping people warm up or get inside. We could not do the work we do without the amazing support of this ethical clothing provider for unhoused people.” – Soma, Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Sidewalk Project
