Project Ropa Summer Newsletter

In May for Mental Health Month we partnered with Purpose Driven Solutions and CalMHSA to provide our clothing grab and go packs and hygiene kits at their nine service events in the Los Angeles area. We also had our Mobile Clothing Closet service at their Los Angeles City College site. In addition to the people we served with our Mobile Clothing Closet we also provided 1,600 hygiene kits and 460 clothing grab and go packs to people in need.

Meet Sarah, our June Volunteer of the Month!

Sarah is an Ohio native and spent time living on the East Coast before relocating to Los Angeles in 2019 and has been volunteering with Project Ropa for over 4 years. She previously worked in product development in the fashion industry, but made the transition into healthcare a few years ago, with plans to eventually attend medical school. Sarah volunteers at our warehouse where she often makes hygiene kits as well as at our direct service sites.

🙋‍♀️ : Why did you start volunteering?

💬 : Given the nature of my job, I witnessed firsthand the amount of waste produced in the fashion industry.  I had been looking for a way to give back to my community, and I immediately connected with Project Ropa’s mission to divert clothing from landfills and empower people experiencing homelessness by providing quality apparel and hygiene essentials.

🙋‍♀️ : What do you enjoy most about volunteering with Project Ropa?

💬 : I love getting to interact with Project Ropa’s wonderful clients, and supporting them together with other volunteers and the Project Ropa staff.

If you are interested in volunteering please DM us or email us at: volunteer@projectropa.org

Meet our new Operations Associate Lauran!

Since January she has been a frequent volunteer at our warehouse and we are happy to say she is now is officially a member of our staff. Help us in welcoming Lauran to our team. You will see her more often in our warehouse and our service sites.

Project Ropa’s warehouse is now a California Green Certified facility!

♻️ Here are some of the ways we are greening our facility:

♻️ Switching to non-toxic cleaning products

♻️ Using energy efficient lighting

♻️ Purchasing 100% recycled content paper products

♻️ Striving to divert 95% of waste from landfills by partnering with Ridwell to repurpose hard-to-recycle items such as batteries, plastic film, food wrappers and unsalvageable textiles and shoes.
